Be very careful when being approached by companies in China.
The Germans make a great range of automobiles including premium brand names such as BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Porsche. These are generally considered to be more “up market” autos and their build standard is generally speaking, very high.
BMW (Bavarian Motor Works) began its corporate journey back in 1913 when a certain Herr Karl Friedrich Rapp created an Airplane Engine manufacturing company called Rapp-Motorenwerke, eventually to become the world renowned BMW. A testament to its early beginnings and still in use today is the circular shape of its logo which was borne from the circular image of a whirling propeller.
Now manufacturing much sought after autos, most of which are supplied complete with alloy wheels fitted to fulfil their class conscious image.
But a lot of top range auto manufacturers now go one stage further in the race to make their vehicles more attractive whilst at the same time reinforcing their brand image. This is of course the wheel hub badge or center cap. Most of the higher range makers supply these as standard, certainly with their top of the range autos. Unfortunately, there is a growing popularity, amongst young folk, to collect these items of finery, making it an expensive affair o have to constantly buy replacements from your dealer.
In the race to make their more modern models more attractive to the general public, most manufacturers have started to play around with the actual sizes of their wheels. The latest trend is to have a larger surface area of wheel on display, with a smaller, slimmer looking band of black rubber surrounding it.
You can also buy BMW Locking Nuts to protect your wheels from being stolen. Unfortunately, there is a growing trend for BMW wheel thievery, in some ways unwittingly strengthened by BMWs own desires to improve the looks of their products.
BMW wheel locks are supplied in sets of four (unsurprisingly), they are coloured black to match the black studs fitted as standard to all BMW vehicles, and they are supplied with especially coded heads that can only be unlocked by the specific key supplied with the set. Should you lose or misplace the key for your Wheel Locks, don’t despair, you can order a coded replacement from your nearest BMW dealership.
One word of caution, these Wheel Locks are only supplied in one standard factory manufactured length, and, if you your BMW has wheel spacers fitted, you are going to be disappointed: they won’t fit.
